I so do not want to grow up sometimes. In fact, making important life decisions is not my best skill (ha ha!). I am taking my last two classes in Special Education to get my certification in that. It was only four additional classes after my Masters program to take and the state certification test. I figured, why not? If it can only make me that more marketable when it comes to applying for jobs, then so be it.
Well, when I met with the certification lady at my college in April, she said in order to get my Special Education certificate, I had to take the test and pass it before February 2012. So the two test dates (the first two) are September 24th (which is when I am taking my test) and November 12th (which is when I have to re-take my Spanish CST bc I missed passing that by 18 points). Believe me, there is NO WAY I want to take TWO tests in one day. I think my brain would implode. Especially since one is offered in Nassau and one is offered in Suffolk and who knows how far the sites would be from. Last Thursday in class, someone said it got changed to 2014. Now, if that is true, it is lovely. However, if it is not, I am so royally screwed because if I don't pass on the 24th, I have to retake it the 12th of November...the same day I take my Spanish CST. Really? NOT FUN...at all.
I know this situation isn't that complex or anything. And in reality, it will all work out. I kind of am not really worried but I think it will all be okay. I just hope I pass the test on the 24th. And the one in November. Because it would be REALLY nice to get my teaching license and get an actual teaching job! Even if it was only part time! I'll just keep humming this to myself... Good things come to those who wait. Good things come to those who wait.

10 years later...
I feel like in everyone's lifetime, there is some major event that is striking in history and everyone remembers where they were when it happened. Such as when JFK was shot. Or when the man walked on the moon, etc.
My generation? The attacks on the Twin Towers in NYC on 9/11/2001. Me? I remember exactly where I was. I was a freshmen in high school, my brother Brian a junior. We missed the bus that morning so my mom was driving us. We were sitting at the train tracks waiting for it to go by and I had some sort of feeling that the day was just going to be bad. Creepy, right? I don't know why but I just felt it. So, where was I when I found out that the towers had been hit? I was sitting in my 9th grade Global History class, first seat second row. I remember the security guard came in to talk to my teacher (her husband was a firefighter in the city) and I heard something on his walkie-talkie. Flash forward to 4th period gym, sitting in rows doing our "warm ups" and the teachers received a note to tell us what had happened. By then it was ten something.
No one could believe it. For the rest of the day, everyone was kind of just in a down mood. Kids were pulled outta school early. I luckily did not have any family members who lived or worked in the city. My next door neighbor and her son both worked in the city but luckily were not involved in it. Considering NYC is about 45 minutes to an hour from where I live, many people in this area lost loved ones. My brother had a friend whose sister lost her fiance. It was just one horrific tragedy that affected millions. Whether you knew someone who died (or escaped) or not, it still affects every one of us.
On this day, ten years later, we never forget. But also, we remember and are extremely thankful. Thankful to those who walked into work that day as a police officer, firefighter, EMT and risked their lives to save others. Thankful to those who serve our country. Thankful to all those who worked cleaning up remains, searching for people, working on the reconstruction of the area. It's those who risk their lives for us (then, now, in the future) that make me proud to call myself an American.
It's eerie to say but this is one of my favorite pictures:

But like anything tragic, there is the silver lining. While this day can have a sad connection with it, I'd rather think of the happy one. 5 years ago today, my brother & his wife were blessed with the birth of their second child...their son, Steven Louis. He was scheduled to be born on the 12th but decided to come early. While it might be sad his birthday is noted to be the same day as a national tragedy, I like to think that five years after it happened, he brought some light back in. HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY, BUDDY! I love him to pieces!

Thursday Thursday Thursday
Hands down, I love this link up! Who doesn't love to rant?

1. Seriously...sometimes having nails annoys the crap outta me. I got them done Tuesday. My hand hit the brick wall at work last night as I tried to catch my phone as it fell outta my hands..the nail on my right middle finger hit it and is not as secure now as it was before this incident. Seriously, what the heck?! I can't remember the last time I had a FULL set of NEW tips on when I went to get a fill in so I am going to do that in two weeks when I go back. Here's to hoping it won't fall off in the mean time or I'll be giving people a very interesting middle finger. ;)
2. Seriously...the stupidity of people amazes me at times. The other night someone said to my friend at work (she was serving them) "The milk is cold." Ummm, did you want it to be warm?! (Which is EWW, SOOO gross). And then last night this guy kept calling asking if we would take a reservation for I think 21 people on Saturday. A) We don't take reservations or call aheads. B) I don't even know 21 people to take out to dinner aside from mixing friends & family. C) We had to explain it to him what seemed like 15 TIMES and he still did not understand it. Oh dear. I'm hosting Saturday night. This should be fun to deal with!
3. Seriously...I have an addiction to purses. I am heading to the outlets to look at something for my nephew's birthday and my brother's and just *may* stop in the Coach outlet since they're having 30% off. Now, the key is how to hide it from my mother and slip it into my every day use.
4. Seriously...can the maid fairy come by my house and clean my room for me? Utter chaos in here now and I'd much rather watch Gilmore Girls then clean it.
5. Seriously...I miss watching the Jersey Shore. *ashamed* I need to watch last week's episode!
6. Seriously...I am kind of disappointed that Ben is the new "The Bachelor." I mean he is cute but hello, can they have a seriously HOT guy on it? Also, they need to have someone pretty as the next "Bachelorette." I usually watch both seasons but Ashley's season bored me to tears I stopped watching.
7. Seriously...Toddlers & Tiaras....it's a train wreck I can't stop watching!

it's raining, it's pouring....
Happy Wednesday y'all! It has been somewhat nasty today with it POURING today but let's hope there is some sunshine behind those clouds for the rest of the week!
It's time for one of my favorite link ups, What I'm Loving Wednesday! You can link up with Jamie here.
I'm loving that I got my tutoring job back! I was required to do it as part of a class during my graduate studies and did it again last semester and was paid. My student from last fall requested me this semester (we were suppose to work together last semester but it got messed up) and I'm SUPER excited it worked out!
I'm loving that this Friday, a bunch of my girlfriends from college and I are having a big old fashioned 7th grade sleepover at someone's house upstate...complete with the adult beverage...COCKTAILS! :) Any excuse to hang out with friends is awesome.
I'm loving that I assembled my new desk chair all by myself! It's one of those rolly ones and it is lime green so it matches my room --- perfect! I was so darn proud of myself when I did it.
I'm loving the show Gilmore Girls! Seriously, it is such a shame it went off the air after 7 seasons. I started watching Season 1 again on DVD (I own all of them) last week and now I'm up to season 2. It's such a funny show. I may have to do a whole blog post with some of my FAVORITE quotes from that show.

I'm loving that Lion King in 3D comes out next weekend. Is it sad I am SUPER excited to see this?!

I'm loving that as of tomorrow, it will only be SIX more weeks til I get to see this lovely chica:

can't wait to see what fall brings!
happy first day!
happy first day of school to my niece sara & my nephew steven! sara is in first grade and steven is starting kindergarten. SERIOUSLY?! where did the time GO?! i swear it was just yesterday sara was six months old at my high school graduation and my nephew was born at the beginning of my sophomore year of college. i don't know who took my nephew (last year it was my mom who took my niece) but it hope they both have a great first day!
i went and got a manicure. i have tips on my fingers because if i don't, i will bite my nails. i was opening a car of dr.pepper cherry after i got home and part of the polish smudge on my left thumb. REALLY? i sat under the dryer for like 20/25 minutes...why now? it's not that big but it's just annoying I paid $16 for a fill-in plus a tip and this happens when i get home. its not like someone would go "OMG YOU MISSED A SPOT!" if they saw the smudge but it is just the principle of the matter. this happen to anyone? any tips on how to prevent it from smudging/chipping when you get home? end of me being cranky.
my mom and i saw the movie "The Help" together. she doesn't go that often to the movies and she really wanted to see it. she was going to ask her friend who used to be our hairdresser but she had already seen it. so i told my mom i would go see it with her...who isn't up for a bonding session with her mom?! :) we both LOVED it. i would totally go see it again. it was a pretty long movie but the message is pretty powerful. it's a shame that is how our country used to be about 40-50 years ago but at the same time, it is amazing to see where we are today. my sister-in-law is reading the book and i plan on reading it as soon as she is done. GO SEE IT! you will love it!
i love how i saved myself $30 buying a textbook brand new from amazon and it was almost $100 USED at the school bookstore. plus i ordered it thursday and it came today! score!
maybe today i will actually be productive and clean my room. keyword: maybe. and do some laundry. oh well. time to go enjoy my day off!

weekend fun
Part of me cannot BELIEVE it is Labor Day weekend. And that majority of people (my brother/SIL/niece & nephew) go back to school on Tuesday! WOW!! Seriously, where did summer go?!?! I have to say, this summer was much more enjoyable than last so I am quite pleased.
I am super excited because three weeks from today, I will be going to a Yankee/Red Sox game at Yankee Stadium with my boyfriend, my BFF Shannon, her boyfriend Dan and my friend Olivia. The tickets were somewhat expensive but I have been DYING to go....and the Yankees playing the Red Sox is the only way my boyfriend would ever be caught in the Yankee Stadium. It is the last game of three (and I think their last game of the season before playoffs) in a series against the Red Sox so I hope they beat their butts!
I really wish I had the desire to clean my room. It is one of those things that I know has to be done, but I would much rather sit in bed and watch Gilmore Girls (hence what I have been doing...except now instead of watching it on my computer, I shall switch to the DVD player.) I think it is time to get the suitcase from Florida OFF my floor and INTO the closet so it is away.
I wonder if tonight and tomorrow night will be busy at work. Maybe, maybe not. It's nice to be making that $$. Lord knows I need it! I bought my textbook for my class that started on Thursday for like $69 NEW on Amazon. It was $96 USED at the school bookstore..holy cow what a nice savings! And best part? i bet i can sell it back and make a profit =)
